The Rotary Club of Bethlehem was organized on April 13, 1916 in the old Eagle Hotel in the City of Bethlehem. The new club was chartered as the 225th Club of the International Association of Rotary Clubs on June 1 of that year. The club’s first president was Robert S. Taylor, Sr.
From a charter membership of 29, the Club has shown steady growth and had grown to a membership of over 200 members. In 1989, in order to address the varying needs of Rotarians from Bethlehem, the club “spun-off” a second club in the city. This club, which was chartered in 1990, became know as the Morning Star Rotary Club. Our two clubs continue a close relationship and collaborate on many worthwhile projects.
Today, in our 90th year, the Rotary of Bethlehem continues to call downtown Historic Bethlehem home, continues to prosper, and maintains a membership above 140.
Over the years, the club has supported numerous projects around the Bethlehem area. Recently, in conjunction with the Morning Star Rotary Club, we have donated $100,000 to support the St. Luke’s Dental Clinic at Union Station, which is located in South Bethlehem and serves the needs of the entire Bethlehem Area.
